Find out more about Château de Berne wines

The Château de Berne and its wine estate.

Well known for its rosé wines, Provence is much less known for the diversity of its terroirs. For the Côtes de Provence appellation alone, no less than six large zones stand out from east to west.
Among them, the terroir of Château de Berne is located on that of the Haut-Pays, made up of limestone hills and valleys. This is the Provence of the interior, little-known and secret, which offers structured red wines and delicate white and rosé wines.
Covering an area of 175 hectares, the vineyard is located on the Triassic plateau which rests on a limestone base from the Middle and Lower Jurassic.
The estate is protected by 800 hectares of forests. The cool nights of Haut-Var ensure slow and optimal ripening of the grapes. If the rosés mature later, they are structured wines with longevity which are particularly well suited to food and wine pairings in the kitchen. contemporary.

The other wine estates of the group

The MDCV group brings together 4 exceptional wine estates in Provence; Château de Berne, Ultimate Provence, Château Saint-Roux and Château des Bertrands.
Ultimate Provence . Located in a wild and mineral environment, in the heart of the largest nature reserve in France, the UP terroir covers 46 hectares of vines, entirely in AOP Côtes de Provence certified organic farming. Vibrantly expressive wines, in signature bottles. From the classic bottle to Methuselah (6L), UP Rosé, the icon, will seduce you with its freshness and its palette of aromas.
Château Saint Roux . On crystalline and limestone soil, its 40 hectares of land give life to wines with complex aromas, cradled by the Provençal Mediterranean climate. Rich in iron and bauxite, essential nutrients, the estate's grapes create deep and unique wines, in perfect symbiosis with the olive trees that coexist on the plots.
Chateau des Bertrands . These unique characteristics are those of the “Notre-Dame-des-Anges” terroir, known as one of the most renowned in all of Provence. The vines of Château des Bertrands, which cover 97 hectares, give pride of place to the natural elegance of the wines. An emblematic land of rosés, Château des Bertrands nevertheless remains very attached to producing whites and reds of great lineage with gastronomic profiles, which will accompany the finest food and wine pairings during great tasting moments.

What are the differences between the vintages offered?

The flagship of the estate with its emblematic square bottle, La Grande Cuvée is available in three colors: red, rosé and white. These three vintages, vinified and aged in wooden barrels , are gastronomic wines which seek to express as faithfully as possible the magnificent terroir of Château de Berne.
The “Les Oliviers”, “Impatience” and “Pur” vintages are organic rosé vintages. Other vintages in IGP Méditerranée such as Romance or Esprit Méditerranée illustrate the Mediterranean and go well with Provençal flavors. Rosés like Émotion or Du Kiff are intended more as an aperitif, while our Grande Récolte vintages are available in mass distribution.

What are the differences between organic and traditional wine?

The difference between organic wine and traditional wine lies above all in the method of cultivation. Indeed, the first focuses on 100% organic agriculture. An approach that completely excludes insecticides and pesticides, whether in the winery or in the vineyards. It thus implies good control on the part of the organic winegrower .
For traditional wine, the cultivation method involves all means aimed at the good health of the vine. Among them are chemicals intended to eliminate harmful insects and bad bacteria. However, winegrowers must stick to tools and products that comply with current legislation.

      What are your best vintages?

Our best vintages are 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and even 2019 which produced exceptional rosé wines, such as Château de Berne Côtes de Provence, which obtained the excellent score of 90/100 by Wine Enthusiast.

What are the best possible food and wine pairings with Château de Berne wines?

Our Inspiration rosé cuvée will pair perfectly with roast poultry with lemon and Provence herbs or a grilled lobster. Our Grande Récolte rosé cuvée will enhance summer vegetable salads, melon and Parma ham or even traditional Provence dishes.
Our white wines will go best with southern cuisine, grilled fish or oriental and Asian dishes. They are also perfect for an aperitif or for meats like chicken.
For our red wines, they go wonderfully with grilled meats, cold meats or even headless larks or cheese platters.
