Rosé wines: the stars of summer

Often associated with summer and Provence, rosé wine is not only made in the south of France, even if most bottles are rosés from Provence . Indeed, many black grape varieties make it possible to produce this wine with its pretty pink color, and each wine-growing region has its favorites:

  • In Burgundy and the Grand Est, Gamay and Pinot Noir are grown;
  • In Provence, it is the grape varieties of Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and even Carignan that produce the best rosés;
  • In the South-West, rosé is made from Merlot, Rolle, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon;
  • In the North, Pineau d'Aunis, Cabernet Franc and Groleau are used by winegrowers.

If they have long been considered as plain table wines, rosé wines now sit alongside the greatest red wines and white wines. With their pretty color , their floral notes and their fruit aromas (exotic fruits, small red fruits, citrus fruits, etc.), rosés are becoming summer essentials , and work wonders with Provençal cuisine.

The advantages of rosé wine

If rosé wine is so successful, it is because it has many advantages. Offering a beautiful freshness, very pleasant in summer, bottles of rosé wine also offer aromas that adapt to many situations. As an aperitif, with the main course, for dessert, in a rosé-based cocktail, or on its own, rosé pleases for its lightness and freshness.

Rosé wines, with their bright pink color and beautiful color, are summer must-haves. Offering tangy notes and beautiful maturity, they proudly bear their Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée.
