What is a gourmet bib?

When you refer to gourmet restaurants, you immediately think of star restaurants. What does “Bib Gourmand” mean?

The Gourmet Bib probably takes its name from the famous Bonhomme Michelin, the Bibendum. Indeed, let's not forget that the Michelin guide was initially launched by the tire company.

But what does the gourmet bib really represent? It is quite simply a recent award, created in 1997, awarded by the Michelin guide. She distinguishes the good small tables who offer a Refined cuisine at affordable prices. By this we mean that the price of the menu should not be more than € 32 in the provinces, and € 36 in Paris.

At that price, a BIB Gourmand winner restaurant must offer a full menu, with starter, main course and dessert, with a remarkable quality/price ratio.

If the gourmet bib is obviously less prestigious than the Michelin star, it allows to reward the quality restaurants, and today concerns nearly 600 establishments in France.

The advantage of such a distinction is that all styles of atmosphere and cooking can claim it, from the little trendy bistro, to the traditional restaurant.

 

Le Bib Gourmand: a concept that is emulated

For almost 25 years already, the little "red guide" has rewarded Restaurants at the best quality/price ratio a gourmet bib. If this distinction is still little known, the health crisis may well put it in the spotlight.
